Year 6 children have been studying Roald Dahl’s story ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ over the last few weeks. During this time pupils have created their own characters, commented on Dahl’s wonderful sweets and made comparisons between the 1971 original film version and the modern 2005 remake. Children also wrote their own narrative based on this classic story; pupils worked very hard and produced writing of a very high quality. To end this unit, children celebrated their achievements with an special day and came to school dressed as Oompah Loompahs. Pupils enjoyed a sweet tasting session and designed their own Oompah dance routine using the poetic skills of rhyme, repetition and alliteration. The children all looked amazing and some of them made an extra effort and came to school wearing costumes they had made themselves. Everybody, including the Year 6 children had a fantastic day.
